FAQs
What should I bring to class?
For Pilates in the village halls you just need to bring a mat. It is also a good idea to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. I will bring all the other props you will need and all the equipment for your strength classes is provided in the fitness studio.
What do I wear?
Comfortable, stretchy clothing that you can move freely in, but avoid anything too loose. Something like leggings or trackpants, and a t-shirt or tank top with a light sweater is great and make sure long hair is tied or clipped back so it doesn’t distract you. Pilates is done either wearing socks or barefoot, and trainers are worn for the strength classes.
I have some existing injuries, is it ok for me to come to class?
It depends! Some injuries require rest, so it is best to get advice from a doctor or physiotherapist. If you can safely move around the injury, either contact me before class to discuss or come to class early to talk about how to protect yourself. You can let me know at ANY time if something is feeling uncomfortable and I will give you alternative options. If in doubt about your injury, contact me to have a chat about it and I can help advise you on how to move forward.
I have some health issues. Is it safe to come to class?
Although the classes are typically safe forms of exercise, there are always risks involved in exercise in general. If you have any health conditions or concerns you should seek medical advice from your GP before trying any forms of exercise. If the GP gives you the all-clear, please state these issues on your health form so I am aware and can modify certain poses if necessary to help keep you safe.
What do I do before class?
Don’t eat a heavy meal before class, as like with any exercise it will feel uncomfortable! A light, healthy snack will keep your energy levels up, however before Pilates avoid anything too sugary or caffeinated as you don’t to be too stimulated or your blood sugar too high while you’re trying to regulate your nervous system in the class. For strength classes, make sure you have eaten some carbohydrates and are well hydrated so you have enough energy to train. Arrive 10 mins early to get settled so you don’t feel rushed.
I’m not flexible or strong - will I be able to do the class?
YES!! I will meet you wherever you are at and can make adaptations to make sure you’re working at the right level for your body.
